General information
Mount Damavand is the highest summit of Iran – 5,610m! Potentially active volcano, it is the highest in Asia as well. Its first climb was “officially” recorded in 1837 by W. Taylor Thompson (English).
Without considering its elevation, Mount Damavand is relatively easy to climb. Watchout, for (really) tough conditions in winter time – Very low temperatures and high winds. Be sure to have the right equipment and enough experience before attempting its ascent… At your own risks !
Starting from Polour or Rineh, numerous routes give access to its summit. Those 2 villages are perfect to set up your base camp.
Best period for skiing Damavand lasts from mid-March up to June.
